Hi,

I have this weird issue with Windows 10 20H2 in place upgrade that I cannot find a solution anywhere. It only happens on this one HP model of laptop Elite 850 G3. Whenever we push the upgrade to this type of laptop via SCCM the progress is stalled at 44% and will never finish. In SCCM Monitoring and even in the smsts log, there are no errors, just say "in progress". Thus, whenever it comes to this model, we are force to do manual upgrade. I make sure the laptop is up to date with drivers and even BIOS. I have tried everything I could think of.

I am hoping if anyone has come across something similar or suggest some ideas, for I am at wits end.

Thank you so much!

Known issue, you have old Conexant audio drivers installed which causes 44% stuck. Been there, seen that. Update conexant audio driver before hitting the IPU process. You can do it in the same task sequence, as a preparation task.

@Pavel yannara Mirochnitchenko It finally worked!!!

so I have to install the win10 conexant driver (not the one for win7). It finally pulled through and completed!

    Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!

How long does it stay in progress? Probably checking panther logs may give some insight into what is going on.

    Hi Mina,

Since this issue occurred on the specific device model, it seem to be a compatibility issue of the device model, it is better to contact the HP support.

For troubleshooting, we could provide some suggestions.

We could compare the difference between the setupact.log and setuperr.log on the computer that have been done manual upgrade successfully and the computer that is stuck in 44% of the In-place upgrade process, this may be able to find out the reason.

The log files are located in a different folder depending on the Windows Setup phase, to locate them, please refer to the following article:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/upgrade/log-files

Hope the above information can help you.
