When does a client update DHCP

Problem: Scavenging turned on one zone, by one in the IT staff

In this time PC's aren't used (people work at home), so A record is deleted in 7 days. And this happened to many DNS records

Settings DNS: Aging 7 days, no refresh interval and refresh interval.

Settings DHCP: Always dynamically update DNS records

Discard A and pointer record when lease is deleted.

To solve this issue I have enabled:

Dynamically update dns records for dhcp clients that do not request updates, so that a new update will bring back our DNS records.

When I've turned a PC on, I would expect a DNS record to pop up after replication. But it doesn't.

Do we really need to force a registerdns with Ipconfig to solve it?

Theoretically DHCP would update when I turn on a PC, but I don't see changes?

    Hi ,

Welcome to our new Microsoft Q&A Platform.

Generally, when the DHCP clients renew the lease, like restrat the PC, then they will renew their Dynamic DNS registrations.

In DNS Dynamic Updates, please select Non secure and secure updates.

Clients attempt to use unsecure dynamic update first, and if unsecure dynamic update is refused, client try to use secure dynamic update.

For troubleshooting purpose, we sometimes recommend to change to non secure and see if it works.

From the client machine, verify if the client has checked "register this connection's addresses in DNS".

If the above steps still doesn't work, we might need to force a registerdns with Ipconfig and then check if DNS record was registered.

    Best Regards,

    Candy
