We recently upgraded our DFS servers to Server 2019 in an attempt to get long file paths working. All DFS servers in the replication group have been updated, a group policy was created and applied to enable long file paths, and the test machines are all Windows 10. I have checked the registry and the key updated correctly:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem\Enable Win32 Long Paths" shows "enabled"
but it still isn't accepting long paths. Is there something I am missing?

Based on mu understanding , the policy was applied successfully , but the clients the long paths still can't be used, right?
Would you please tell how did you define the long path?If possible please share a screenshot of that.
Tip: If private information is involved in the screenshot, it is recommended to blur sensitive information.

Thank you for the response. I think I understand now. We updated the servers and applied the group policy but didn't change the Folder Target. So for a share named Information Technology, we would have to change "\server.domain.com\Information Technology" to "\?\server.domain.com\Information Technology"?

Based on my research, we can ?\disable the MAX_PATH limit on the Windows operation system level without using prefix \?.

If you have any questions or concerns about it, please don't hesitate to let us know.
So, it sounds like long filenames really aren't ready for prime time and that to make them work I would need to get a 3rd party file manager for all our employees or develop one in-house. Is that the case or am I missing something?
