Task Manager Hangs after Windows 11 upgrade
I just upgraded to Windows 11 and one of the several system issues I've encountered is Task Manager freezes / hangs. Once you open it, you get an initial view of the Processes tab, but it doesn't refresh...and going to the Details tab...it is blank. Trying to close down the window results in it hanging and you have to r-click on the program in the Task Bar and choose Close Window to get it to close, which results in an Event Log of:
The program Taskmgr.exe version 10.0.22000.65 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

Any ideas?

2022-02-10T05:10:28.94+00:00 make sure you do not pause task manager update speed.
If the issue isn't caused by update speed try to repair your windows.

2022-10-22T19:37:52.343+00:00 I did same, It download wireless adapter and bluetooth updates. Task manager keeps hanging. I tried to update all my drivers using www.touslesdrivers.com. It detects AMD and Nvidia updates. Issue still here.
However, taskmgr is working in windows safe mode, so I did a clean boot disabling all unnecessary services. It appears to be DeviceAssociationService. I disable its startup and taskmgr is working again.
What's the purpose of DeviceAssociationService ? How to troobleshoot this service ?

2022-10-21T08:26:48.427+00:00 I ran the Intel Driver & Support Assistant. It downloaded three drivers - graphics, wireless adapter, and a bluetooth driver. The moment those updated - the task manager started working again. One of those three was clearly doing something.

2024-02-19T15:29:41.0566667+00:00 Hello, I currently have the same issue, which is impacting task manager as well as other programs that are not starting correctly. With a little analysis of the Services.exe, I was able to find that some kind of deadlock was happening between dashost.exe and svchost.exe (PID corresponding with "Device Association Service"). (Note that in the blocking list I could also find that the svchost corresponding to the WLAN AutoConfig service was also hanging, but it didn't seem to be the root.) While googling this specific deadlock issue, I stumbled into this brillant article which explained the problem and provides a solution: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1339707/help-with-figuring-out-what-is-causing-waitchain-d Tl;Dr, if you own or have owned a Smart TV connected to your network, you probably have this issue.
