Is SearchHost.exe a valid Windows 11 file, service, and Registry entry? I am trying to resolve an issue that comes up every time I reboot, for updates, etc. The Search window keeps opening and closing on its own every few seconds, for an hour, sometimes more. Along with that I get an occasional Windows Input Experience and Get Started will pop up, but they stop once Search calms down. I have tried to suspend SearchHost.exe in Task Manager - Details, but that is a futile process when it keeps opening on its own.

When I try to look online for SearchHost.exe, I have 2 finds that have me asking this question: 1. It is malware associated with bitcoin mining. or 2. It wants me to look at SearchFilterHost.exe, which may be associated with SearchHost.exe if this is a valid Windows 11 entry. I had no problems with Windows 11 until I did an update, cumulative, last month. That is when this all started and continues now with each reboot, fortunately, I only reboot after updating.

I have tried removing the Registry entries for SearchHost.exe with disastrous results! Not really, because I backed up both the Registry and System Restore Point before trying this. It was a 'last ditch' effort today as SearchHost.exe would not quit running at all. I can't seem to find an answer as to why this goes crazy, and what to do about it. If you have ever tried to Stop a Service that is constantly starting and stopping itself, you know how frustrating that is.

    Hello Donnie0727

SearchHost.exe is a valid file part of Windows Search Indexer, which is a service that is designed to search and index files on Windows PCs. However as an EXE file, it is always susceptible to be a target of a virus attack. Just to be safe, I would recommend to run a Full Scan of your system.

On the other hand, you can try the next:

Click on “Start” and then go to settings.
On the resulting window, choose “Devices”. Select “Mouse and TouchPad”.
Scroll downward until almost at the bottom of the screen/window. You will see the option “Additional Mouse Options.”
When you select the additional options for mouse, a box appears containing the information of the touchpad that your device has. In most cases, you will see “Synaptics TouchPad”. Whatever yours reads, click on its settings and proceed.
When you click on settings, a new box will appear. In it, there is a tab labeled “Tapping/Taps”. When you open this tab you will see “Three Finger Tap” and “Four Finger Tap”.
Uncheck these boxes and then click on APPLY.
Exit the settings, and if you so wish, restart the computer. The search box should no longer appear. The Search/Cortana box may have been detecting your tapping as an instruction to invoke it all along.
