Post-Deployment of Windows Server 2012R2 Essentials Experience role always FAILs at 67%

Hi,

It seems a problem with a pretty old Windows version, but I still wanna solve it . Like it described above in the title, when the WSEE role is installed and start to configure, it fails every time at 67% (if Windows Server 2016, fails at 72% every time). The error message is: An error occurred while configuring Windows Server Essentials. Please try again.
I searched a lot (someone in the forum posted the similar questions) but the problem is still there. Really need some help.

Environment: ESXI 7.0 (all are virtual machines), windows server 2016 is used as DC and CA to the domain, WSEE role is installed on Windows Server 2012 R2 standard (join in the domain, not DC).

The whole process is as follows (by https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-essentials-sbs/dn281793(v=ws.11)?redirectedfrom=MSDN),

  1. Create a user account on DC and join in the Administrators, Domain Admins, Enterprise admins group;
  2. Fresh install Windows Server 2012 R2 standard and then join into the domain as a member server (computer name is less than 15 letters;
  3. Install the WSEE role to the 2012r2 and then configure it;
  4. stuck at 67% every time (72% by Windows Server 2016);
  5. At the same time, AD CS and IIS has been installed automatically (actually, I do not want this server used as a AD CS);

Tried method like below,

  1. ServerFolder: I even cannot see this folder anywhere;
  2. ServerAdmin$: DOMAIN\ServerAdmin$ add to the group policy and gpupdate /force;
  3. firewall: only local firewall installed (even tried to turn if off on DC and 2012 R2);
  4. Remove AD CS and retry;
  5. Try to check the log file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS but no joy (maybe not know much about this part).

Really want someone can help me out!

    Hello @WayneLLL

    If you are trying to make the installation multiple times essentials role might been already installed in Essentials and it might use the post config wizard on the first boot so try a clean install with new configurations.

    Some prechecks that you can do to avoid this is listed below, try your hands on them and see if they are helpful.

    -Verify that the network adapter on the server is connected to a router by a network cable.
    -If the server has more than one network adapter, verify that only one network adapter is enabled.
    -Verify that your server hardware meets the minimum requirements. For information about hardware requirements
    -If you received the Windows Server 2012 Essentials installation DVD from MSDN, verify that the DVD is valid by checking the SHA1 sum.
