Wsus server cleanup wizard fail

Hello everybody ,

My wsus service's database is local wid , when I execute "WSUS Server Cleanup Wizard"  , after waiting fews minutes , show error message .......

After I google for a period , I modify config in two segments , one in iis pool , the other is sql server

IIS config : application pools-->Wsuspool-->advanced settings-->recycling-->private memory limit(KB) set to 0

SQL Server config : Tool-->Query Execution-->SQL Server-->General-->Execution time-out set to 6000

So where should I config to let WUS cleanup wizard success !!!

Thanks for your posting on Q&A.

I agree with @Adam J. Marshall . Have you tried to run the reindex scripts? If not, we could run it first.

Also we could run the PowerShell script to cleanup if the Server Cleanup Wizard failed.

Run the SQL server database to replace WID

Are you performing the rest of the WSUS maintenance including but not limited to declining superseded updates, running the SQL Indexing script, etc.? There are a number of other parts to the monthly maintenance that needs to get done so that everything works.

Hi ,
After I execute sql , I got this result

Then I start to execute "Server Cleanup Wizard" in WSUS console , but it still failed !!!!

Hello Jack Lai,

Have you tried the PowerShell script to decline and Cleanup all the Superseded Updates? If not, please try to cleanup all the superseded updates first and then connect to WSUS console to run the Server Cleanup Wizard.

In the past, a lot of bros feedback that the Server Cleanup Wizard failed due to there are too many metadata on the WSUS database. Would you mind sharing the Products and Classifications you have ticked and how many updates you have synced on the WSUS console?

It seems that you have ticked many Products and Classifications on the WSUS console. How many updates you have synced on the WSUS console?

Please try to follow this link to reset WSUS to intial state. It works in the most cases.

I'm sorry to repeat one more time. It seems that the issue is due to there are too many updates on the WSUS database. The Server Cleanup Wizard will failed. But we could run the scripts to cleanup. Here are several scripts for your reference:

Note that the link isn't from MS, just for your reference.

Run the following script to decline the superseded updates:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-GB/troubleshoot/mem/configmgr/decline-superseded-updates

Please delete the wsus folder as the below path after running the above scripts:

Reconnect to the WSUS console and then run the Server Cleanup Wizard to check whether the issue has been resolved.

It seems that there are no updates for a long time. May I know the status of the case?

According to the picture you shared above, it seems you have already declined the superseded updates but the superseded updates haven't been cleaned up. Please try to run the below scripts and check whether it will be helpful.
