Cutting out the middle of a video

I am using teams for teaching a class. I recorded within Teams. I had a time period where I asked students to go do something but I did not stop the recording. Is there a way to get rid of the 15 minutes of silence?

In the future, if I stop recording and then restart will I get 2 videos and if so can I put them together in one?

I have limited skills in this area.

Thank you

Teams recordings are available in Microsoft Stream which provides very basic editing capabilities allowing one to trim just the beginning and end of a video (https://learn.microsoft.com/stream/portal-edit-trim). There is not currently support for trimming a section in the middle of a video. In order to do this you will need to first download the video (https://learn.microsoft.com/stream/portal-download-video) and then use a separate video editing applications. After you have edited the video you can either upload the new video to Microsoft Stream or replace the existing video (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/stream/portal-replace-video) - if you want to keep using the same link for the original video.
There is a large selection of video editing applications (free and paid versions) you can use depending on your current skill level, how much editing control you need, and how much time you want to invest in learning using the application.
If you are using Windows, the Windows Photos application is free and will provide you the capabilities you are looking for with pretty much no learning curve needed. It does have very basic / limited video editing capabilities – e.g. you will not be able to control / add any transitions between your video segments beyond just adding a title card between them or having them directly merged. If you don’t already have Windows Photos installed, you can download it using the Microsoft Store application in Windows. To cut a section from the middle of the video, create a new video project and add your video to it. Then drag the same video to the storyboard twice. Select the first video in the storyboard, select the trim function and trim away the 15 minutes of silence and the end of the video. Then select the second video in the storyboard and trim away the beginning of the video and the 15 minutes of silence. Click finish video and wait for the video sections to be merged. You can also check out other free and paid applications in the Microsoft Store that will provide additional editing capabilities. I haven’t tried out any of these so can't provide feedback on any of them.
For much deeper video editing capabilities there are several free open source applications that are supported across multiple platforms (i.e. windows, MacOS, etc.) that you can investigate using. OpenShot is one of easiest for beginners to use. Others include Shotcut and Kdenlive.

    Hi KelliKlebe-1925,

Perhaps, it needs to use some video editor to get rid of this part or merge with two parts.

We recommend you that please give a feedback to https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/41257039-cutting-out-the-middle-of-a-video.

Microsoft will always focus on customer’s feedback and experience. Some new features would be added to the services based on customers' feedback in the future, and your good ideas will be very helpful for them to improve the service.

Your time, understanding and cooperation will be highly appreciated.

Thanks @Anton Kucer for the OpenShot recommendation. It was super easy to trim out a section in the middle of my video.
