SCVMM 2022 - trying to add perimeter host (Veeam backup server) and I keep getting the dreaded 426 error - Agent not responding?

I have run winrm qc on my Veeam server (Perimeter host I'm trying to add) and I have tried to add it by IP and by name. I have tried adding the name of the server to the hosts file on the VMM server - I can ping the Veeam server by name and by IP from my VMM server. The agent installs fine on the Veeam server, and both systems have the firewall disabled right now. When I install the agent on the Veeam server I have tried the HTTP and https ports - and I've ran netstat -abo and found the default IIS was bound to port 80 and changed that... Nothing seems to be bound to 443 - and I do not see any errors in the event logs for the SCVMM agent installation. I can hit HTTP://localhost:<new_port>/ and port 80 and 443 return the page cannot be reached.

Does anyone have any ideas for me to check to get this Perimeter Host added to my SCVMM server? There are no ACL rules in place between servers but they are on different VLANs. Since both servers can ping both directions to each other - does that mean scvmm thinks the agent is not installed on veeam - could something else be wrong with the agent besides winrm qc?

    Hi,

I'm not familar with Veeam backup server, if this issue occur on Hyper-v host, I will let you check the follwing items:

Troubleshoot issues when you add a Hyper-V host in Virtual Machine Manager

For Veeam server related question, we could also post our query on Veeam forum to get more professional support.

    Hello @Erik Tank

I would recommend to check if you have already created a logical network in VMM to connect the host into VMM. This would simplify the job of adding a host in a different VLAN.

    Reference: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/system-center/vmm/network-logical?view=sc-vmm-2022

Hope this helps with your query,
