SharePoint 2019 - On-Prem Modern Search not working

We have SharePoint 2019 On Prem with Dec 21 CU, This is simple configuration with One App and One WFE server.

The Problem we are facing is, we have few files like "*.flv, *.mp3 and *.mkv" which are uploaded in different document library randomly.

SharePoint search is configured and it does crawl the entire site including these files.

In our environment SharePoint is configured to use 3 different search approaches to fetch documents for users.

1) Modern Search which is available on home page

2) Classic Search for which we have created a separate search center.

3) Custom Search which is based on classic search with couple of additional functionality.

End user is free to use any of these approaches as per his requirement.

The problem is When user is searching for the any of the above file with extension "flv, mp3 or mkv" below is the search result in each of the search tool.

1) Modern Search - Does not fetch any details/files

2) Classic Search - Does find list all the files on the site based on the keyword

3) Custom Search - Does find list all the files on the site based on the keyword

When navigating to the document library let say "Documents" and then search for above files in Modern search it will display all the files in that library without problem. Issue seems only with the Modern search on Home page.

Except this issue search works fine for other keywords in all three cases.

FYI,

  • There is not file type restriction
  • FLV, MKV and MP3 has been added to file type in crawler.
  • DOCICON.XML file in 15 hive has already been updated for the above extensions.

    Sorry for the delayed response, I have tested modern search like you said in my environment during these days. I am not able to reproduce this issue. In this scenario, I would suggest you open a ticket with Microsoft for further help.
