It seems like having that software update infrastructure is the way to go. Any drawbacks or risks with setting one up? My place of work has had SCCM for years and I don't know why this was never setup. It is a big organization here, so I am wondering why they never set this up years ago.

There is no drawbacks or risks to set up software update infrastructure in SCCM, software update is one of the most used functions in SCCM.
Maybe your organization is managing updates by group policy or WSUS, but SCCM is more powerful at managing updates.

Ok thank you, they use windows update for business. I'm sure that is great after the image, but I will need to load updates into an existing image, so I will work on getting the software update infrastructure setup in our sccm. Thank you.
