HI

I am evaluating the process of migrating databases from Sybase ASE (Linux) to MS SQL Server 2019 (Linux). Can anyone share their experience OR some discussion threads? I am trying to use SSMA for that - do you think this is a good tool and can handle data of 1TB database?

Thanks

    Hi @Tahir Khalil ,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!
Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) for Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) is a tool for migrating ASE databases to MicrosoftSQL Server 2012, MicrosoftSQL Server 2014, MicrosoftSQL Server 2016, MicrosoftSQL Server 2017 on Windows and Linux, MicrosoftSQL Server 2019 on Windows and Linux, or Microsoft Azure SQL Database. SSMA for Sybase converts ASE database objects to SQL Server database objects, creates those objects in SQL Server or Azure SQL Database, and then migrates data from ASE to SQL Server or Azure SQL Database. So, yes, you can use SSMA.
I suggest you start reading here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/ssma/sybase/sql-server-migration-assistant-for-sybase-sybasetosql?view=sql-server-ver16
You can view the location of the current document according to the navigation bar on the left.
In addition, to prevent time-out errors for large data migration, you can changed this setting "Data Migration Timeout" setting (Project settings-> General -> Migration) to a higher value. Also, you can change "Batch Size" (Project settings-> General -> Migration) too.

    Best regards,
    Seeya
