Connect to Sigma
Sigma delivers cloud-scale analytics and business intelligence with the simplicity of a spreadsheet, complete with pivot tables and dashboards.
You can connect Databricks SQL warehouses (formerly Databricks SQL endpoints) to Sigma.
Connect to Sigma using Partner Connect
To connect to Sigma using Partner Connect, do the following:
In the sidebar, click Partner Connect.
Click the partner tile.
Note
If the partner tile has a check mark icon inside it, an administrator has already used Partner Connect to connect the partner to your workspace. Skip to step 8. The partner uses the email address for your Azure Databricks account to prompt you to sign in to your existing partner account.
Select a catalog for Sigma to write to, then click Next.
If there are SQL warehouses in your workspace, select a SQL warehouse from the drop-down list. If your SQL warehouse is stopped, click Start.
If there are no SQL warehouses in your workspace, do the following:
- Click Create warehouse. A new tab opens in your browser that displays the New SQL Warehouse page in the Databricks SQL UI.
- Follow the steps in Create a SQL warehouse.
- Return to the Partner Connect tab in your browser, then close the partner tile.
- Re-open the partner tile.
- Select the SQL warehouse you just created from the drop-down list.
Select a schema for Sigma to write to, then click Add. You can repeat this step to add multiple schemas.
Click Next.
Partner Connect creates the following resources in your workspace:
- An Azure Databricks service principal named SIGMA_USER.
- An Azure Databricks personal access token that is associated with the SIGMA_USER service principal.
Partner Connect also grants the following privileges to the SIGMA_USER service principal:
- (Unity Catalog)
USE CATALOG
: Required to interact with objects in the selected catalog. - (Unity Catalog)
CREATE SCHEMA
: Grants the ability to create objects in the schemas you selected. - (Hive metastore)
USAGE
: Required to grant privileges for the schemas you selected. - (Hive metastore)
CREATE
: Grants the ability to create objects in the schemas you selected. - CAN_USE: Grants permissions to use the SQL warehouse you selected.
The Email box displays the email address for your Azure Databricks account. The partner uses this email address to prompt you to either create a new partner account or sign in to your existing partner account.
Click Connect to Sigma or Sign in.
A new tab opens in your web browser, which displays the partner website.
Complete the on-screen instructions on the partner website to create your trial partner account or sign in to your existing partner account.
