Is it possible to replace a shared file while keeping the original link?

Hey folks,

I have the following issue: I created an excel file where multiple users have access to, but accidentally forgot the sheet password. I can change that and delete the sheet password altogether and put in a new one that i will hopefully remember, however, in order to do so, i have to download the original excel file, change it, and then upload it again into teams.

My question now is: some colleagues use a link within teams to get to the excel file, some others have this link to the file in their browser, etc.

Is it possible to simply replace the original file with the one i uploaded ( identical content, just with new password on the sheets) while keeping the original link people will access it from ?

Thanks in advance for reading this! I hope you all have a good day! :)

Greetings,

Robin

Hey john, thank you for your suggestion.

Your suggestion would have been valid if Lord of Gammel remembered the password. He would enter make changes and it will still be the same link because it is seen as an edit not uploading it again.

Hello! My name is Mustafa, and I am an Independent Advisor as well as a long-time Microsoft user. I'm sorry that you are experiencing this issue, and I am hopeful that I will be able to help you find a satisfactory solution.

Unfortunately, this is not possible, because when you upload a new file, SharePoint considers it a new file, and will think of them as 2 separate files because SharePoint doesn't compare what is inside of the document, and even if it is the same file teams will not provide it the same link because it is considered a new file.

So you will have to share the new link with these users.

Please let me know if this doesn't work or if you need further assistance.

    Warm Regards,

    Mustafa
