For those of you who have deployed Lync Server 2013 On-Premise or Online you have probably been waiting for the new release of the Lync 2013 App for your Smartphone.

Microsoft are now starting to release the apps to the various app stores for Smartphone App Stores. Windows 8 & iPhone/iPad are currently available with the android release appearing soon. Note: The Lync 2013 App will not be available for Windows Phone 7.8 Devices and so you will need to use the Lync 2010 App.

The Lync 2013 App is now available on

  • Windows Phone 8 - Download/Info
  • Windows Phone 7.8 - Unsupported
  • Apple iPhone/iPad - Download/Info

Before you go ahead and sign-in t0 the new application you need to ensure that your IT Administrators have applied Microsoft Lync 2013 Cumulative Update 1 or above to your Lync Server 2013 Infrastructure. If you are the IT Administrator then please read the following in order to do this: https://www.edutech.me.uk/technical/microsoft-lync-server-2013-cumulative-update-feb-2013-cu1

When signing into the Lync 2013 Mobile App if you are presented with the notification "You can't sign in with this version of Lync. Please install Lync 2010" this will be because your IT Administrator has not applied the CU1 Lync 2013 Update.

The reason why the Lync 2013 Mobile App relied on Lync 2013 Server CU1 is because it contains the UCWA CU1 Update which Lync Server 2010 or Lync 2013 RTM does not have.

You will notice that the Lync 2010 App for your Smartphone does work and this is because Lync 2010 Mobile relies on Lync Mobility Service (MCX) which is included on Lync 2010 and Lync 2013 Servers.

Enjoy!
