1.0 Setup for the Resource Kit Software
The Windows NT 4.0 Resource Kit Support Tools are available in one self-extracting, compressed executable file. This file comes in two versions: SP4RKX86.EXE (for x86 computers) and SP4RKALP.EXE (for alpha computers). Each of these self-extracting files contains a master setup program and all of the files necessary to install the Windows NT 4.0 Resource Kit Support Tools and documentation on your machine.
Important: These tools have not been localized: they are written and tested in English only. Using these tools with a different language version of Windows NT 4.0 may produce unpredictable results.
1.1 General Setup Instructions
To setup the Windows NT 4.0 Resource Kit Support Tools, download the file that corresponds to your machine (SP4RK_X86.EXE for x86 machines; SP4RK_AXP.EXE for Alpha machines), double-click the downloaded file, and then follow the directions that appear on your screen.
Setup creates a Resource Kit 4.0 Support Tools folder on the Start menu with a shortcut to the Tools Management Console (TMC), a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in which is used to browse, acquire help on and run the tools. For more information about these utilities, choose the Resource Kit Support Tools Help (SP4TOOL.CHM) shortcut. Setup also adds the \Program Files\RKSUPPORT directory (or the directory name you choose for installing the utilities) to your computer's PATH statement.
Note: After installation, you must reboot your machine before you can use the NT Messages help file (NTmsgs.Chm).
