Installing the Universal Connector Service for Operations Manager 2007 R2

This topic provides instructions for installing Operations Manager 2007 for Universal Connector Components in the Operations Manager 2007 R2 environment.

Preliminaries

Review the following information before you install Connector components for Operations Manager 2007 R2:

  • The Interop Provider must be installed before the Connector Service Components.

  • When you install the Connector Service and the Connector Configuration user interface (UI) at the same time, you must install both on a server that has Operations Manager 2007 R2 console installed.

  • If you install the Connector Service and the Connector Configuration UI separately, you can install the Connector Service on any computer with a supported configuration in the domain or in a trusted domain of the Operations Manager 2007 R2 root management server (RMS).

  • To install Connector components, you must use an account with the following privileges:

    • The account must have local administrator privileges on the local system and on the local security policies. The account must include granting the logon as a service privilege.

    • The account must have Operations Manager 2007 R2 administrator privileges.

    • The account must have Microsoft SQL DBO privileges for all databases involved.

    • A domain account with the appropriate privileges is necessary when components or functionality are on different systems, such as deployment of High Availability Connectors.

To install Universal Connector Components

  1. Run SciConnectorSetup_x86.msi (on 32-bit servers) or SciConnectorSetup_x64.msi (on 64-bit servers) to start the Operations Manager 2007 R2 Connector installer.

  2. On the Welcome screen click Next.

  3. Read and accept the license agreement.

  4. Do one of the following, and then click Next.

    • If you are installing the Connector Service and the Connector Configuration UI, click the down arrow next to OpsMgr Universal Connector and select Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive.

    • If you are installing only the Connector Service or the Connector Configuration UI, click the down arrow next to the respective name and select Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive.

  5. On the SQL Server Configuration page, enter the Server Name, the Instance Name (required only for named instances), the Database Name, and the SQL Server Port.

  6. On the Configure Connector Service Login and High Availability page, enter a user name and password for the install, enter the domain that the Connector Service will run on, and whether to install as a High Availability service.

  7. Click Next to continue, and then click Install to begin the installation.

  8. On the Configure Connectors page, click Configure Universal Connector.

  9. Enter the Operations Manager server name, the Universal provider name, and WS-Man server user name and password, and then click Configure.

  10. On the Connector Certificate Retrieval and Installation page, click Yes, install the certificate automatically, and then click Next, click Done, and Finish.
