Connect to a Novell eDirectory Server
For this procedure, in Management Agent Designer, on the Specify Logon Information page, you connect to a server running Novell eDirectory. You must provide a server name, a user name and password with administrator rights, and a logon domain. Each time the management agent is run, it uses this information to log on to the directory server to read or write to the directory you specify. To complete this procedure, you must be logged on as a member of the FIMSyncAdmins security group.
To connect to a Novell eDirectory server
In Management Agent Designer, on the Connect to Server page, in Server, type the name of the Novell eDirectory server you want to connect to, and then type a port number, user name, and password.
If you want to secure all network communications by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), select the Enable Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for communications check box.
If you want to secure the user name password when users log on, select the Enable Simple Authentication and Security Layer (SASL) for communications check box.
Important
If you do not select Enable Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for communications and Enable Simple Authentication and Security Layer (SASL) for communications, all network communications, including logon information and connected data source import identity information, are sent as plain text. If you want to secure only the user name and password, select Enable Simple Authentication and Security Layer (SASL) for communications.
Note
If you do not know the port number used to connect to your server, type 389. This is the most common default port number.
Note
It is not necessary that a Novell eDirectory client be installed on the FIM server.
Note
You are not required to install FIM on the server running Novell eDirectory. You can install FIM and Novell eDirectory on different servers.
