Scheduling Backups
Published : September 27, 2005
You must determine when to perform manual backups and how often to perform regular backups. Unless business requirements dictate otherwise, we recommend that you back up the databases and replicas upon initial creation, after adding new protection groups or making changes to protection groups, and at weekly intervals thereafter.
When establishing your backup schedule, be careful to address the business, legal, and regulatory requirements for archiving file server data. Regulatory and business requirements may determine back up frequency and how long the data needs to be retained. Because you will use DPM for short-term data recovery, the schedule for tape backups should be based on long-term storage requirements.
