How to Set the Publication Type in a Publication

Applies To: System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2, System Center Essentials 2010

Use this procedure to change the publication type of software updates or software update bundles that are assigned to a publication. When you set the publication type of a bundle, all the software updates in that bundle are published with the publication type of the bundle.

To set the publication type

  1. In the Updates Publisher 2011 console, click Publications. The workspace is displayed at the bottom of the navigation pane in the console.

  2. Select the publication that contains the software updates or software update bundles that you want to modify.

  3. Select the software update or software update bundle that you want to modify.

  4. On the Home tab, click Automatic for Updates Publisher 2011 to query Configuration Manager to determine whether the selected software update or software update bundle is published with full content or only metadata. In this mode, software updates are published only when they meet the client request count and package size thresholds that are specified on the ConfigMgr Server page of the Options dialog box. Automatic mode is available only if Configuration Manager Integration is selected in the Updates Publisher 2011 configurations options. For information about setting Configuration Manager Integration and setting thresholds, see Configuration Manager Server.

  5. On the Home tab, click Full Content when you are sure that you want to deploy the software update by using Configuration Manager. When Full Content is selected, Updates Publisher 2011 publishes the binary of the software update and the definition (metadata) of the software update.

  6. On the Home tab, click Metadata Only when you only want to gather compliance information for software updates. When Metadata Only is selected, Updates Publisher 2011 publishes only the definition of the software update, but does not publish the software update binaries.
