Remote Desktop Web Access Role Service Migration

This guide describes how to migrate the Remote Desktop Web Access (RD Web Access) role service or the Terminal Services Web Access (TS Web Access) role service. By using this process, you will migrate the configuration settings, including authentication method, SSL certificates, and connections to RemoteApp sources.
When you follow the steps to migrate the RD Web Access role service or the TS Web Access role service, the result is a fully functional RD Web Access server that replaces the one that you retire from the deployment. You do not need to perform any additional steps to use the RD Web Access server.
Note
In Windows Server 2008 R2, the TS Web Access role service is now called the RD Web Access role service. In this migration guide, this new terminology is used even when referring to previous versions of Windows Server, unless there is a difference that makes it necessary to mention TS Web Access separately. Security group names have not changed in Windows Server 2008 R2.

Migrating RD Web Access includes migrating the following:
Web Server (IIS) settings
TS Web Access Computers security group membership
RD Web Access authentication type
RemoteApp sources
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate
Important
During the migration process, the name of the source server is given to the destination server. This allows you to migrate the RD Web Access role service without changing connection strings for any of the other role services in the deployment. After you remove a source server from the domain, you will not have access to any role services on that computer.
What is not migrated
This guide references the Remote Desktop Services Migration: Overview topic, which contains information that applies to the migration of all role services such as order of migration, expected downtime, impact of migration on other role services, and permissions required for migration. In addition, the overview explains how to migrate SSL, code signing, and digitally signed certificates. The steps documented in the overview are not repeated in the RD Web Access migration guide.
The procedures in this guide are for migrating the settings of an unmodified RD Web Access website. If you have done any customization of your website, you should design a custom migration process.
