Filescrn filegroup export

Exports file groups to a file.

Note

To use this command, you must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group.

Syntax

filescrn filegroup export /file:<Path> [/filegroup:<FgName>] [/remote:<ComputerName>]

Parameters

Description

/file:<Path>

Exports file groups to the XML file at path Path.

/filegroup:<FgName>

Exports only the file group FgName. If the group name contains a space, enclose the name in quotation marks. If the parameter is not specified, by default all file groups in the file are exported.

/remote:<ComputerName>

Performs the operation on the remote computer ComputerName.

Remarks

  • You can use the XML file created by this command for importing file groups with the** **Filescrn filegroup import command.

  • The shortest sequence of characters that uniquely identifies a parameter can be used as an abbreviation. For example, the following two commands are equivalent:

    filescrn f e /f:d:\filegroups.xml
    filescrn filegroup export /file:d:\filegroups.xml
    
  • To perform operations on a remote computer by using the **/remote:**ComputerName parameter:

    • You must be logged on with a domain account that is a member of the Administrators group on both the local computer and the remote computer.

    • The remote computer must be running Windows Server 2008, and File Server Resource Manager must be installed.

    • The Remote File Server Resource Manager Management exception on the remote computer must be enabled. You enable this exception by using Windows Firewall in Control Panel.

    Note

    When you export file groups on a remote computer by using the /remote: parameter, the XML file specified by the /file: parameter is saved on the local computer.

Examples

  • To export the Log Files group to the file D:\logfiles.xml, type:

    filescrn filegroup export /file:d:\logfiles.xml /filegroup:"Log Files"
