Remarks

The Span element is used to group other inline content elements. No inherent rendering is applied to content or other elements within a Span element. This means that content is not formatted if it is put inside a Span element without any attributes. However, elements that inherit from Span, such as Hyperlink, Bold, Italic, and Underline apply formatting to text.

Child elements that are contained in a Span element must derive from Inline. The following are the valid child elements:

Mixed Content in XAML

The Span class supports a content model that allows you to mix text and Inline elements in its XAML content. An implicit Run element is created for each block of text. Then, both the Run and Inline elements are added to the Span.Inlines collection. Mixed content is not permitted in most other XAML content models. However, you can use mixed content in Paragraph, Span, and TextBlock. For more information about the Paragraph content model, see the "Content Model" section in RichTextBox Overview.
