The Prod. Order - Shortage List report lists the missing quantity per production order component, and shows how inventory is expected to develop from today until a specified date. It helps you see whether enough stock, purchase orders, or other production orders cover the components needed for a production order before its due date, so you can identify and act on potential shortages early.
You can filter the report by production order status, production order number, and date filter to narrow the analysis to specific orders and a specific time horizon. The date filter in particular controls the cutoff used to calculate scheduled receipts, needs, and inventory projections for each component.
Use cases
Use the report when a production planner or shop floor supervisor needs to check whether components on open production orders are available by their due date, so they can resolve shortages before delaying production.
Production planners can use the report to:
Review which components on open production orders are projected to run short before their due date.
Check the needed quantity against on-hand inventory, scheduled receipts, and quantities on purchase and sales orders to decide whether to expedite a purchase or reschedule production.
Filter by date to focus on near-term shortages that could delay the current production schedule. Materials and procurement teams can use the report to:
Identify components with insufficient scheduled receipts relative to production demand so purchase orders can be created or expedited.
Compare quantity on purchase order and quantity on sales order to understand competing demand on the same item.
Use the report output to prioritize follow-up on items showing a positive needed quantity across multiple production orders.
