USB stopped working

Suddenly one of the USB ports (3.0) of my laptop stopped working, it does not detect anything.

I used to have plugged in an external hard disk.

The disk works fine when I plug it in the other USB port.

From device manager it seems it is fine "This device is working properly" (USB properties)

I installed (and re-installed) it but still nothing.

Searching the log from properties-events I found an error 401.

What is that and what I can I do to fix it?

Thank you.

    Dear Carlo,

thank you for your reply and your time.

I followed all steps you mentioned.

Now, there is no error at the logs and from the device manager -> USB 3. 0 Extensible Host Controller and USB 3.0 Root Hub-> Properties I get "This device is working properly."

Yet, no matter I plug, it is not detected, no sound, nothing.

    I can't guess what's wrong.

I wish you a wonderful day too.

    Kalliopi
