Steps to connect to a BI and visualization partner

To connect your Azure Databricks workspace to a BI and visualization partner solution, follow the steps in this section.

If you have an existing partner account, Databricks recommends that you follow the manual connect steps.

  1. In the sidebar, click Partner Connect button Partner Connect.

  2. Click the partner tile. (If the partner tile has a check mark icon inside it, an administrator has already used Partner Connect to connect the partner to your workspace. Skip to step 7. The partner uses the email address for your Azure Databricks account to prompt you to sign in to your existing partner account.)

  3. If there are SQL warehouses in your workspace, select a SQL warehouse from the drop-down list. If your SQL warehouse is stopped, click Start.

  4. If there are no SQL warehouses in your workspace, do the following:

    1. Click Create warehouse. A new tab opens in your browser that displays the New SQL Warehouse page in the Databricks SQL UI.
    2. Follow the steps in Create a SQL warehouse.
    3. Return to the Partner Connect tab in your browser, then close the partner tile.
    4. Re-open the partner tile.
    5. Select the SQL warehouse you just created from the drop-down list.
  5. Select a catalog and a schema from the drop-down lists, then click Add. You can repeat this step to add multiple schemas.

    Note

If a partner doesn’t support Unity Catalog with Partner Connect, the workspace default catalog is used. If your workspace isn’t Unity Catalog-enabled, hive_metastore is used.

  6. Click Next.

Partner Connect creates the following resources in your workspace:

    • An Azure Databricks cluster named <PARTNER>_CLUSTER.
    • An Azure Databricks service principal named <PARTNER>_USER.
    • An Azure Databricks personal access token that is associated with the <PARTNER>_USER service principal.

The Email box displays the email address for your Azure Databricks account. The partner uses this email address to prompt you to either create a new partner account or sign in to your existing partner account.

  7. Click Connect to <Partner> or Sign in.

A new tab opens in your web browser, which displays the partner website.

  8. Complete the on-screen instructions on the partner website to create your trial partner account or sign in to your existing partner account.
