Manage student responses
Show student responses
After students respond to one of your interactive questions, it’s time to share the answers with the group. You can display student responses anonymously on the projector screen by selecting Show Responses in your navigation bar.
This is an exciting part in any Pear Deck lesson because now students have the opportunity to see what their peers think. It’s also a great opportunity to discuss different viewpoints, different approaches to the same problem, or show a struggling student that they aren’t the only one who needs to slow down or keep practicing.
Depending on what question you asked, you might like to change the way answers are being displayed. You can choose from different layout options in the top left corner of the screen:
- List view - Shows all the answers in a long, scrolling list
- Grid view - Tiles the answers
- Overlay view - Layers the answers on top of each other. This is particularly helpful for multiple choice, drawing, and draggable questions.
Lock and time responses
To give you more control over the pacing of your lessons, Pear Deck provides a lock button and a lock-slide timer. If you select the lock screens button once, student screens will lock and they won't be able to change their answers. If you hold down the lock screens button, you can start a timer. When the timer reaches zero, students' screens lock.
- Lock - Hover over the navigation bar. Select the Lock Screens button once. Voilà! Student screens are locked and they cannot change answers.
- Time - Hover over the navigation bar. Select - and this time hold down - the Lock Screens button. This engages the timer. Set it for 30 seconds, one minute, or three minutes. When the timer hits zero, student screens automatically lock so they can no longer respond.
Curate answers to display on the projector
In the teacher dashboard, you control which responses are visible on the projector view. To open teacher dashboard, select the ellipsis button (...) in your navigation bar and launch the dashboard in a new tab.
Highlight good examples or common misconceptions with the star button. When it’s time to show the responses, only the ones you starred will appear on the projector view. To show all the responses select Clear Stars.
Hide a response from the projector view by selecting the ellipsis button (...) below the answer and select Hide Response. This is helpful when a student has submitted an inappropriate or distracting response. All answers are automatically saved in Pear Deck, so hiding only removes them from the projector view!
