IVMVirtualMachine::AddNetworkAdapter method

[Windows Virtual PC is no longer available for use as of Windows 8. Instead, use the Hyper-V WMI provider (V2).]

Adds a network interface to the virtual machine.

Syntax

HRESULT AddNetworkAdapter(
  [out, retval] IVMNetworkAdapter **networkAdapter
);

This method can return one of these values.

Return code/value	Description
S_OK 0	The operation was successful.
E_POINTER 0x80004003	The networkAdapter parameter is NULL.
VM_E_VM_UNKNOWN 0xA0040207	The configuration is unknown.
VM_E_PREF_ILLEGAL_VALUE 0xA0040301	No more than four (4) network adapters can be added.
VM_E_VM_RUNNING_OR_SAVED 0xA004020B	The virtual machine is in a running or saved state.
DISP_E_EXCEPTION 0x80020009	An unexpected error has occurred.

You can only add a new network interface to a stopped virtual machine. The newly created network adapter is not connected to a virtual network.
