Rules not being invoked automatically in the browser version of Outlook

Mail sent to my outlook.com email address are automatically being forwarded to another email address. I have a spammer who sends me lot of junk mail so I was hoping that I could create a rule in outlook that looks at the message header for a string and if that sting is found delete the message before forwarding but that's not the behavior being exhibited.

It appears that the rule, instead of deleting the message, places the messages into my inbox. Granted, placing the messages in my inbox is better than forwarding hundreds of messages to my other email address. Since the messages appear in my inbox I can invoke the rule manually but I was hoping that somehow they can be deleted up front automatically instead.

Does anyone know a way to automatically run the rule and delete the message instead of placing the messages in my inbox.

Thanks.

    Hi @Bill Hull ,

Auto-forwarding takes precedence over rules, it will still be automatically forwarded, and as a workaround, it is recommended that you use the spam filter to filter messages from specific email addresses or domains.

You can refer to this link to configure it in the client:
