SSMS freezes on student computer when I demostrate TSQL queries using MS Teams on my computer

I lecture Microsoft SQL courses from my home using Microsoft Teams. I installed the latest edition of SSMS & SQL Dev 2019 Ed on my Lenovo laptop. During the lecture I would share my query window with the delegate to demonstrate TSQL queries. The moment I execute the query, the delegates reported that the SSMS query window which I'm sharing with them, freezes on their MS Teams window, but on my side my Microsoft Teams window does not freeze up. I would then unshare my query window and immediately share it again, and only then can they see the query output. So every time I execute a TSQL query in SSMS, I have to unshare and share my query tab so that they can see the query output. This only happens when I share SSMS query windows. The delegates screens do not freeze when I share a power point presentations.

I guess this mainly a question for the Teams experts. My experience of sharing individual windows with Teams is so-so. Sometimes it works, others it does not. I have not thought that much on whether it is SSMS or something else.

When I present over Teams remotely, I connect a big monitor to my laptop where I have Teams etc. Then I share my laptop screen. (Where I have a VM from which I run the presentation.) I think you should consider some similar arrangement.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling SSMS to check the issue?

Based on your description, there are a few several possible solutions that you can try:

• Disable GPU hardware acceleration (requires restarting Teams).
• Clear the cache in Teams client or browser.

• Update your Graphic Driver to the latest version.
• Try using the web version: https://teams.microsoft.com/ to check if the issue still occurs.
• If you’re using a VPN to access Teams, turn it off and back on.

Hi, I am also experiencing this problem.

SSMS version 18.12.1

I have experienced this issue on 3 out of 4 days over a month, while i have been running sql training via teams with ssms. when it happens (most times now), it is consistent, every time without fail you hit the run button it freezes the teams screenshare for the audience, which has to unshared, then reshared. this did not happen with earlier version that i have used.

switching to the latest teams client did not make any difference.

Same issue still present June 2024, with latest SSMS 20.1 - freezes and has to be unshared/re-shared.

Works fine if you share the whole screen instead of the app. but this isn't always what you want.

For the record, I don't think this issue is limited to Teams.
I have the same experience when screen sharing SSMS in a Slack huddle.
Almost any activity in the active SQL pane will disconnect the screen share.
Slack team support suggested this Microsoft discussion.
