DependencyAgentLinux for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS

Hi,

There is an MS Defender recommendation from a Policy (I think part of ISO27001) asking us to enable the DependencyAgent for Linux on our Virtual Machine Scale Sets. We did that and according to the extensions list it was enabled successfully (at least, it doesn't state differently) and the Policy becomes green. But in our Logs we see the following error:

Install handler failed for the extension. More information on troubleshooting is available at https://aka.ms/VMExtensionDependencyAgentLinuxTroubleshoot' Code: VMExtensionHandlerNonTransientError Message: The handler for VM extension type 'Microsoft.Azure.Monitoring.DependencyAgent.DependencyAgentLinux' has reported terminal failure for VM extension 'DependencyAgentLinux' with error message: '[ExtensionOperationError] No n-zero exit code: 51, /var/lib/waagent/Microsoft.Azure.Monitoring.DependencyAgent.DependencyAgentLinux-9.10.17.3860/bin/time-limit 870 scripts/install.sh >/dev/null [stdout] [stderr] Unsupported distribution: Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS The Dependency Agent was not installed. See https://aka.ms/ServiceMapTroubleshooting (exit code = 0x00000033) for assistance.

This VMSS is running with Ubuntu 22.04LTS and since this is a VMSS provisioned by AKS, we actually don't want to change anything there. Is there any option for us to have it enabled / will there be a compatible version at all in the future?

I also found this compatibility list btw.:

    Hello Wedding, Jan,

Welcome to the MS Q&A Forum.

Unfortunately Dependency Agent is currently not available on Ubuntu 22.04, due to product design. I attempted to obtain information on the ETA internally, but the only explanation we received is that there are no short term plans for adding supportability on Ubuntu 22.04.

I found the similar feature request "Make OmsAgentForLinux and DependencyAgentLinux extensions available for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS" already raised in on the feedback forum. If interested, you may upvote it. In general, Azure feature or product team would check feasibility of a feature request, prioritize against existing feature backlog, add them in roadmap as appropriate and would announce and/or update the related Azure document once a feature request is addressed.

    Hope above answers your question.

    Sincerely,

    Olga Os.
