Hi all,
We enrolled some iPAD/iPhone using Intune using "Corporate Mode".
We deployed Microsoft Company Portal APP.
I noticed user are able to rename device using "Company Portal" application.
Is there a settings to avoid user can change hostname via "Company Portal"?

Thanks a lot!
Federico

    @Hussein Guleed,Thanks for posting in Q&A.

From your description, I know you want to prevent users from changing hostnames via Company Portal

Based on my research, Rename – This action changes the device name that the user can see in the Company Portal. It does not change the local device name, only the listing in the Company Portal. Therefore, it will not rename the device in the Intune portal.

Moreover, there is no related feature in Intune can prevent users from changing hostnames via Company Portal, however, we can create a device name restriction policy to block users changing device name.

    Here are the steps.

1.Go to Intune portal > Create an iOS configuration policy > Select iOS/iPadOS as platform, Setting catalog as Profile Type.

2.In Configuration settings page, search Restrictions > Select Allow Device Name Modification and set to False.

3.Assign it to device or user group

    User's image

Then the device cannot change the device name.

    Hope it will help.

    Hello

Unfortunately, there is no direct setting within the Microsoft Company Portal app itself to prevent users from renaming their devices. However, you can prevent users from renaming their devices by enforcing device naming policies through Intune or Group Policy.

In Intune, you can create device naming policies to enforce a specific naming convention for devices enrolled in your organization. This will prevent users from renaming their devices using the Company Portal app or any other method.

Additionally, you can also use Group Policy settings to prevent users from changing their device names. You can set the "Prevent users from changing the computer name" policy in Group Policy to restrict users from renaming their devices.

    Hi @glebgreenspan,

    Thanks for your detailed reply.

In Intune, you can create device naming policies to enforce a specific naming convention for devices enrolled in your organization

    That sounds interesting! Thank you!

Additionally, you can also use Group Policy settings to prevent users from changing their device names. You can set the "Prevent users from changing the computer name" policy in Group Policy to restrict users from renaming their devices.

I can't use Group Policy in my scenario.
I am using MS Intune just to manage iOS, not Windows devices.

Is "device naming policies" suitable for iOS devices?

What would be the reason to block users to rename their IOS device?

Is it true that (Intune) policies are based on a specific name and when a user renames the device, these policies will break!?
I would say this is a major flaw in Intune policies. Why not using the unique Object ID of the device, which is already known in Intue.
