When creating a lab in Azure Lab Services, the only enabled Ubuntu LTS release by default is 20.04. I can go into marketplace and enable others, such as (for example) Canonical's 22.04 and 24.04. Is there any reason not to enable those? Or to put it differently, why is only 20.04 enabled by default?

It is fine to enable those other images. Ubuntu 20.04 is the default, but I also agree that this should be updated to one of the newer images. You are fine to enable those other images, but I will reach out to our Azure Lab Services team to see about updating the default version. Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
