Open links to files (stored in SharePoint) directly in Desktop App

If I paste a link into a page in Onenote (the desktop version) to a file (say Excel) that is stored on SharePoint, clicking the link from OneNote always opens the file in the web version of the app. I need ALL links to files to open in their native Desktop apps. I can do this easily in other apps (like Outlook or Teams) but can't find the setting in OneNote. Opening in the web and then having to choose and open it again in the desktop is tedious and unnecessary.

Please advise on how to get this set. Thanks.

    Hi,

It feels like the recognition is that the web page is open normally.

Is the OneNote login the same as other Office products?

I tested it, and it was also opened from a web page. It seems this is a by design behavior.
