    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

To run Linux Mint Live from USB on Surface 5, you need to follow a few steps to make sure the USB is properly prepared and the laptop is configured to boot from it. Here are the steps you can take:

    1. Prepare the USB drive:

Download the Linux Mint ISO: Go to the official Linux Mint website and download the ISO file of the version you want to use.

Create a bootable USB: Use a tool like Rufus (Windows) or Etcher (cross-platform) to create a bootable USB drive with the Linux Mint ISO.

    1. Configure Surface 5 to boot from USB:

Enter BIOS/UEFI setup: To enter BIOS/UEFI setup, turn off the Surface 5 and press and hold the Volume Down button. While holding the Volume Down button, press the Power button. When the Surface logo appears, release both buttons.

Change the boot order: In UEFI setup, find the option called "Boot Configuration" or something similar and move "USB Storage Device" or the identified USB drive name to the top of the list of boot devices.

Disable Secure Boot: In the Security or Boot Security menu, find the Secure Boot option and set it to Disabled.

    1. Boot from USB:

Insert the prepared USB drive into one of the USB ports on your Surface 5 tablet.

Restart your laptop and it should now boot from the USB drive.

    1. Run Linux Mint Live:

If everything is set up correctly, you should see the Linux Mint boot menu. Select the Start Linux Mint option to run the Live environment.

If you still have problems, make sure:

The USB drive is formatted correctly and the ISO is written correctly.

The USB port you are using is working properly.

Your Surface firmware is up to date.

I hope the information above is helpful.
