Migrate MS Teams Education to another tenant (with Education) - Class Notebook with Assignments and Grades

Hi,

I have to migrate several Teams (maybe between 500 and 1000 teams) over to another tenant where many teams has a Class template with Class Notebook and Assignments / Grades with necessary information that must be transferred over. The new tenant aslo has Education licence and will be assigned to the migrated users.

Some teams will also continue to be used with the same Assignments / Grades and Class Notebook. I have used ShareGate to do the work but a problem is this software does not take into account the template used and creates the team with the standard Teams template. Which means the users can not continue to use Class Notebook or Assignments / Grades on the team in new tenant. Have tried a lot and it may looks like I have to create the team manually from scratch (with Class template) in the new tenant.

I have partly got the Class Notebook over to the new team that is created (using export in OneNote and sync to OneDrive on new tenant before moving to the right Team). The problem then is that the chat history and channels do not get transfered to the new team. The files can be moved over with regular SharePoint migration in SG, but how can one get over Assignments and Grades to the new team with the template Class? I notice they have an export to Excel function - but is it also possible to import for Excel?

Greatly appreciate help with this. Also if there are other smart solutions that reduce manual work and at the same time can retain all Teams data and functionality on the new tenant.

    @HOFH ,

    Currently, no official document has instructions to migrate Microsoft Teams. It can only be realized by 3rd party tool. For more details about tenant-to-tenant migration, you can refer to this article: https://learn.microsoft.com/zh-cn/microsoft-365/enterprise/microsoft-365-tenant-to-tenant-migrations?view=o365-worldwide.

    In fact, it is a challenge to migrate Microsoft Teams because the most data isn’t stored in Teams. It’s actually stored in SharePoint team site, Exchange team mailbox, Exchange mailboxes of individual users, OneDrive for Business of individual users, OneDrive organizational document library, Azure, Stream, Third-party storage provider.

    Meanwhile, this case discusses the topic about Teams migration. You can refer to it.
