Under my original account, notepad can be used normally and txt file can be opened normally.

When I created a new user, I found that I could not open any txt file, neither double-click the file nor right-click to select the opening method.

When I search for notepad, a message is displayed indicating that I need to install notepad in the App Store.

We wan to know why this is happen and how to avoid it.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

On Windows 11 IoT Enterprise, new users are unable to open Notepad or. txt files and are prompted to install Notepad from the app store. This may be because in newer versions of Windows, Notepad is considered an optional feature or an application managed through the Microsoft Store. You can try the following methods to solve it:

    • Installing Notepad through optional features

Open Settings: Press Win+I to open the settings application.

Navigation to optional features: Go to Applications ->Optional Features.

Add Function: Click to add a function.

Install Notepad: Search for "Notepad" in the list.

Check the checkbox next to Notepad, and then click Install.

    • Installing Notepad through Microsoft Store

Open Microsoft Store: Click on the Microsoft Store icon on the taskbar, or search for "Microsoft Store" in the Start menu and open it.

Search Notepad: Use the search bar to search for "Notepad".

Install Notepad: Click on the Notepad app, then click on Install.

Through the above steps, we hope to solve the issue of notepad unavailability in new user accounts. If you still have any questions, please feel free to inquire.

    Best regards,

    Jill Zhou
