In more recent versions of IIS (starting from IIS 7), the IIS Admin Service is not required for the core functionality of IIS. This service was primarily used in older versions of IIS (IIS 6 and earlier). The core functionality of IIS is handled by the World Wide Web Publishing Service (W3SVC) and Windows Process Activation Service (WAS) in modern versions.
