Edge 128.0.2739.42 hangs

Windows 11 Edge version 128.0.2739.42 has issues. There are reports of some users not able to use the home page. I am able to use the home to enter a search query. When I click on a url link, another tab opens to go to the url. After an intermittent amount of time, Edge hangs. A couple times, Edge just closed.

When Edge hangs, it causes lagging with the Windows and at times prevents access to any other application. CTRL-ALT-DEL allows me to end the process. I noticed that the process was also listed as "Efficiency Mode" for the status. This is a status I have not seen before.

I was forced to download another browser application, so I can continue to work. A bug update would be greatly appreciated.

Please check if the command line option --disable-features="msIrm, msIrmv2, msEndpointDlp" works. Here're the steps:

1. Open Command Prompt (cmd).
2. Close all msedge.exe instances with the command: taskkill /f /im msedge.exe. If failed, you can end msedge.exe in task manager.
3. Use the command to add command line option when starting Microsoft Edge: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" --disable-features="msIrm, msIrmv2, msEndpointDlp"
4. If it solves the problem, consider adding the command line option like this: Right click on Edge shortcut icon --> Shortcut --> Target --> "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" --disable-features="msIrm, msIrmv2, msEndpointDlp". So you don't need to open command prompt any more.

If the steps above solves the problem, a fix is on the way to next releases of Microsoft Edge. We appreciate your understanding.

This issue was first resolved in the release of Edge Stable version 128.0.2739.54, released on 29 August 2024. Please upgrade to have a check.
