Hi!

Some strange behavior when outlook connects to the mail server.

So outlook copies mail from the exact domain as the users domain to Junk Folder and then it doesn't download Junk folder from the server.

For example some logs:

Dec 17 13:18:36 imap(test@keyman .com): Info: copy from Junk: box=INBOX, uid=11265, msgid=<000001d6d476$21d3b3c0$657b1b40$@keyman .com>, size=1142523, from==?windows-1251?B?'Some coded text in from'=?= <dsn@keyman .com>

Log is redacted for privacy reasons

If I change the password of the mailbox and kill session on the server(outlook session is IDLE) and connect to the server with another mail client (e.g. Roundcube) the mail works correctly, nothing goes to spam folder, but the second i connect to the server w/ outlook all the mail from the domain.com goes to Junk.

Our backend is Dovecot/Exim, any thougts?
The problem first occured at somewhere 20.11.2020
We've tried this hints and several more(links lost, srry), but that didn't help.

    Hi @Majordomo ,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

    connect to the server with another mail client (e.g. Roundcube) the mail works correctly.

    According to your description, seems that the same email account could work fine in other mail client, right? As I know, emails of IMAP account in Outlook should be synced from your mail server. So, in order to further confirm your issue, it is suggested for you to log in to your web mail and test to see if this issue could be reproduced.

    If everything could work fine on your web mail, then please follow the steps below to troubleshoot your Outlook client:

    1. Did you add this email account to an existed Outlook profile? In order to exclude the influence from Outlook settings of other email accounts, it is suggested for you to try creating and using a new Outlook profile via Control Panel > Mail > Show profile and freshly re-add your email account to see if there is any difference.
    2. As I know, we could choose which IMAP account folders appear in Outlook on our own. Please make sure you have subscribed all the folders you need properly. For more information, please check the steps in this article: Choose which IMAP account folders appear in Outlook.
    3. Usually, Outlook desktop client itself would not automatically move your emails. There could be some add-ins in your Outlook client that cause this issue, so it is suggested to start your Outlook in safe mode (Press Win + R, type “outlook /safe”, press Enter.) and see if the issue continues.
    4. Besides, setting IMAP root folder could help modify the folder structure in Outlook and make email account re-sync with the mail server. So, if the issue still continues, please try set your Root folder path as "Inbox" and wait for the re-sync to see if the issue could be resolved. (File > Account Settings > Account Settings > Email > Double click your email account > Root folder path)

    Hope this can be helpful.
