Microsoft Teams Audio Issue

Hi Team,

Several users in our organisation are experiencing audio issues during a call. Most users are on Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 4, Windows 11 23H2 22631.4391.

Affected user's input audio volume is low so other meeting/call participants can't hear them clearly and it also cuts out at times (rarely) when they speak.

We have done extensive troubleshooting by running Windows 11, Lenovo firmware and application updates, checking the settings of both application and the system, reset and repaired the application, reinstalled microphone drivers, checked BIOS for any I/O settings (none were found), tested the recording using Windows 11's Sound Recorder application to confirm hardware issue, but the input volume was fine, and finally reinstalled the application.

None of the methods mentioned above were successful in fixing the problem, hence we have concluded that the issue lies in the application itself.

It started to affect our users recently, potentially after the latest Windows 11/Microsoft Teams update, but we have noticed the issue was raised online somewhere around mid-2024.

Please let us know your thoughts and if you have any questions or concerns.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks,

Anatoly

    Hi @Anatoly Romanov

Could you please tell me if you only encounter this problem in Teams? Have you tried to check the audio problem in other applications?

According to your description, you are experiencing audio problems in meetings/calls. Please try the following solutions to troubleshoot the problem:

Clear Teams cache: If this is a temporary problem that may be related to the cache, you can try clearing the Teams cache. User's image

Use Teams web client: Please try to use the Teams web client to see if you encounter audio problems.

Check Teams settings: In Teams, go to Settings > Devices, make sure the correct microphone is selected, and disable the "Automatically adjust microphone settings" option.

Check Windows audio settings: Make sure that the microphone is enabled and not muted in Windows settings. The path is: Settings > System > Sound > Input.

Update audio drivers: Make sure all audio drivers are up to date. You can update audio drivers through Device Manager.

On reddit there is a thread about this issue. Looks like they've solved the issue by updating the Realtek Semiconductor Corp. to version 6.0.9710.1

I am able to factory reset a T14S and reproduce the low mic in teams issue by letting the cumulative update from MS install. The issue persists until I do the following. Updating realtek with Vantage alone did not fix the issue.

Something with the ""Intel® Smart Sound Technology for Digital Microphones" is having a problem with the driver or teams and is noise cancelling the user instead of background noise.

    1. Updated with Vantage realtek 6.0.9710.1 issue persisted
    2. Devmgmt.msc as admin
    3. Rolled back realtek audio driver, persisted
    4. Rolled back "Intel® Smart Sound Technology for Digital Microphones", Fixed and on these versions that worked
    5. All settings that google suggested related to sound did not make an impact in this area

Once this was done I was able to update the realtek driver again and the settings did not revert, however this could just happen again with the next cumulative update unless the driver issue is corrected by the MFG. When I google this issue and t14s I see it happening in 2020, 2024 and 2025 so it sounds like I may be reinstalling drivers after the next cumulative update if it comes right back

Someone in the lenovo forum let me know that a new driver was released again 4/7/2025 and should address these issues.

Will test, and reply, but this won't fix a PC of another model with a different realtek driver and same problem P1 Gen 5 now presents with the same issues

Use the latest driver (6.0.9775.1) that were posted on 4/7/25

Prior to driver upgrade (issue observed with these drivers)

Intel Smart Sound driver version 10.29.0.11261 (driver date 8/6/2024) Realtek Audio 6.0.9710.1 (driver date 7/18/2024)

Post driver upgrade (issue fixed with these drivers)

Intel Smart Sound driver version 10.29.0.11472 (10/3/2024) Realtek Audio 6.0.9775.1 (12/18/2024)
