If I select "Standard" for "Deployment Type" in AzureOpenAI, will the input and output data ever go outside the specified region?

The official site states "For customers with data residency requirements. Optimized for low to medium volume.However, there is no clear statement that if "standard" is selected, customer data will not leave the specified region.

If you have a URL where I can find such a statement, please let me know.

When you select "Standard" as the Deployment Type in Azure OpenAI, your customer data will be stored and processed within the specified region. According to Azure’s data residency policies, Microsoft may replicate data to other regions for resiliency (such as for backup and disaster recovery purposes), but Microsoft will not store or process customers data outside the selected region for normal operations.

For additional context, while Microsoft may replicate data across regions for resiliency, you have control over where your data is processed. However, users can still move, copy, or access the data globally.

In this part, it says that the location of the data to be replicated can be set by you, but does this mean that if the "Deploy type" is set to "standard", the data will be replicated within the specified region?

With "Standard" deployment, input and output data are processed within the specified region, but Microsoft may replicate data to other regions for backups or disaster recovery. For strict residency needs, review Azure’s policies.

I think what K-19 is referring to in his last comment is how to configure the input/output data so that it does not go outside the region.

For example, when deploying an AI model, if the AzureOpenAI region is set to UK and the “Deployment Type” is set to “Standard”, will the data ever go outside of UK?

Also, you mentioned that input and output data may be backed up to a different region than the one you have set, but if the AzureOpenAI region is set to UK and “Deployment Type” is set to “Standard”, the data will be backed up in the UK and not outside the UK Does this mean that it will be backed up in the UK and not outside the UK?

I am also curious about this point and would appreciate your response.
