How to fix game lag after updating NVIDIA driver

I use my laptop for gaming (miscrosoft surface studio laptop) and had been playing fortnite but continued crashing recently. I decided to download the NVIDIA app to update drivers to see if that would help. I am all up to date with INTEL drivers. However after getting the latest NVDIA update Fortnite lags like crazy I'm not sure how to fix it. I tried lowering most of the settings in game settings but its still really bad. Everything became high quality now and lags.
