Launching Microsoft Edge on Windows 11
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Hi. I have a two-month old Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 11 Pro. Yesterday, some Windows updates installed and then Edge no longer worked. When I tried to open it, I got this message:
msedge.exe - Application Error
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close the application.
I called Dell support this morning. Spent over an hour with them while they tried a bunch of stuff. The finally gave up and said they needed to reset the laptop to its factory state. Did that and went through the whole initial Windows setup again and somehow Edge is still failing with this error. Dell suggested I try to get help here.

Hi Chris,
I think now the only option is to perform an in-place repair to Windows.
Please follow the steps, this is then just like an update and your files, settings and installed applications will remain untouched.
Click this link:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...
to download the Windows 11 ISO
When the ISO file completes downloading
Disconnect from the Internet
Disconnect all external devices with the exception of a mouse or keyboard.
Temporarily disable any 3rd party Anti-virus you may have installed
Then, in Windows File Explorer, double click the ISO and then run Setup.exe and select the upgrade option.
No luck I'm afraid. Same error.
Any other ideas?
Hi Chris,
Yes, please download the offline installer on another device like the one you are using to access this forum, then transfer the installer to your new laptop and run the installer.
Thanks for responding. Since this is now a fresh Windows install there no other browsers installed, I don't know how to download this installer directly. Is there a way to do it, or do I have to download it on another PC and copy it over via USB drive?
Hi Chris,
I am Dave, I will help you with this.
Seeing as Edge cannot be uninstalled, download the Edge offline installer from the link below and re-install Edge on top of itself using that.
