SCCM - SQL Server reaching 100% during Software update sync

Hi Guys,

Recently i am seeing that SCCM server is at 100% CPU during the SUP sync process.
99.5% cpu time is taken by SQL server only.

we have enabled the WSUS maintenance in Config Mgr 1906 so it deletes the expired updates, and non-clustered index option is also enabled. windows search is disabled.

any pointers to fix this ? Do you guys think running SUSDB & WSUS indexing manually will help to fix this issue ?

could you suggest a link for SQL scheduled maintenance guide ?

As for how often - WSUS Automated Maintenance (WAM) does a lot more, and has a daily, monthly, and quarterly setup that's all automated by the scheduled run.

Hi AJ,
Thanks for the input. the CPU utilization seems to happen during the deletion of obseleteupdates.
i have observed the cpu usage during the sUP sync process.
during the download, the cpu usage is reasonable.
the moment sccm start the deletion of obselete updates, the cpu usage of sql server is constantly at 100% the after 20 minutes, it is back to normal.
So the * remove obsolete updates from the WSUS database consumes it all. at the end of the process it just says it deleted 0 updates.
do we have still follow wsus clean up procedure even though we have enabled in config mgr.
we are using config mgmr 1906 version.
