    Hello Arremm1,

    Thanks for reply.

Just wanted to add.  If I disable User Account Controls altogether, the program will recognize Java and work correctly.  But, of course, I do not want to disable UAC just to get this program to work.

Thanks for the reply.  I followed your instructions and deleted all Java software and all references to Java in /C/Program Files and the registry.  In the registry, under both Current_User and Current_Machine/ Software, I found the entry as "JavaSoft".  I deleted these.  I hope that I was correct.  Anyway, I redownloaded the latest version of Java 6.0.20 and installed.  I also uninstalled the program (Route_Riter) and reinstalled.  I got several messages saying:

Stdole.tlb failed with error code Ox8002801C

Wshom.ocx failed with error code Ox80040201

I check in my Windows/System32 folder and both of the files are installed with a date of 7-13-09 (before I bought this computer), so they come installed with the OS.  But, after all that, I receive the same message when I open the program.  "You do not appear to have the Java Runtime System installed on your PC"

I have also written to the author of the program, and he says that he is running Windows 7 and has had no problem running the program.  I failed to mention that my Windows 7 is 64-bit, but I am running IE 8 which is a 32-bit program.  Just in case, I also downloaded the 64-bit version and installed in the 64-bit Program Files.

Any other suggestions?  By the way, thanks for your help so far>

Yes.  The program is called Route_Riter and it is used in conjunction with Microsoft Train Simulator
