Error Code 797 : connection is not available because there is a problem with your modem or network adapter

I have a Windows 7 laptop. I use broadband(DSL) to connect to the internet. Of late , I'm having an error with the code 797. It says connection is not available because there is a problem with your modem or network adapter. I have a Sony Vaio e series laptop.
