Hello, During creation of VM, there is no option to pick a reduced size disk (and reduced pricing as well). Azure by default assigns P10 disk which is fairly unneeded for me. Is there anyway to pick up P3 or P2 disk sizes during or after creation of VM? Thanks

Hi, If you refer to the OS disk that size depends on the image. There are Windows OS images 128 GBs in size but also with 32 GBs. When you select the Windows Server image select one of those that starts with [small disk]. Of course you can always decrease the OS disks from within the OS and after that from Azure VM resource after deployment. Please " Accept the answer " if the information helped you. Hello, you can have OS disk of 127gb but you cant change the size. you can choose data disk of your choice and resize as per your need. ** Please mark upvote if find useful.

Thanks for response.
I tried to reduce the disk size from azure portal. After selecting a reduced size (P10 --> P4), it was not being saved. Anything I am missing?

Before reducing the size from Azure side you need to shrink the volume from inside the VM. Here is a link to such operation.

Hello,

It didn't work. I reduced the disk volume to 32gb inside VM, then shut down, deallocated. Then tried to reduce the size from Azure portal but error that failed action, cannot resize down.

Looking for any useful info please.

I just tested this and it works perfectly. Did you use the script provided in the article? You also need to be precise with the numbers to avoid reducing the size more than what you have shrinked.

Hi,
I didn't use the script, I just reduced the vol inside VM and then from azure portal, disk. Using script looks a tad difficult to be honest. No sure how to start.

You cannot do it from the portal, you have to use the script. The script is doing copy of the disk to a storage account so it can reduce it.
