Some 32 bit programs running as background processes after Windows 10 update

MarkThis is an issue Ive had since the October update and is still not resolved despite a lot of effort from Support.

Basically, as the header says, some 32 bit programs I use as part of my work, which used to work fine under W10 64, ceased to do so after the update. Instead of starting properly they appear as background processes, chewing up CPU and memory but in no way accessible. Other 32 bit programs I use were completely unaffected and still work fine.

Has anyone else had this same issue and come across a fix?

The first effort to resolve this with Microsoft Support resulted in losing valuable data and consequently a work contract that I had all but completed. We've rolled back to the last build and delayed the update but it kicked in a few days ago while i slept.

The compatibility troubleshooter has not been any help at all.

Any insight would be very welcome.

Many thanks

Mark

    Hi Bradford

Of the programs i'm having problems with two of them have had updates while the others are no longer available and their companies out of business. The two that have had 64 bit updates are actually inferior to the older ones especially in their user interfaces. Being audio/synthesis programs I'm sure you can appreciate that a musician likes to keep the tools that have served him so well in the past as long as he can.

Those two are Native Instruments Absynth 4 and Native Instruments Battery 3. Oddly, other older 32 bit Native Instruments products I own work just fine.

    Thanks for your help

    Mark

Hello my name is Bradford and I'm an Independent Advisor for the Microsoft Community and I will try to contribute to resolving your problem.

    First, I must ask:

    1. Have you checked the websites of each of the programs' makers for updates to each program manually? If there were any updates from the program's publisher, were you successful at installing the updates?

Sadly Windows Update is unable to provide updates for third-party programs which is why it's best to manually check.

    Next, may I ask

    1. If after manually installing updates for your programs, what are the names of the particular programs that are being affected?

If you haven't already completed step 1 please do, and if it does not work or you already did it please let me know the information requested in the second step. Thank You!
