Image copy paste is not saving the image in SharePoint MultiLine Textbox (Enhanced RichText) field

We have a SharePoint list column, MultiLine with enhanced richtext. Trying to add an item to this list where we copy pasted the Image in MultiLine field.

But after saving the details, the image is not visible. When we checked the html, it has "img tag with src as empty".

Any suggestions to achieve image copy paste in "SharePoint Multiline with Enhanced Richtext" column?

How is this still not available? This is basic functionality and I see people have been asking for it since 2016. Users need to be able to just copy and paste in screenshots and not have to save them somewhere first. MS adds in a lot of cool features for online, but when you can't do basic functionality, it's hard to get users (and management) interested in using SharePoint.

Sadly this is still not available. You would think that it has been an issue for another year since the last comment on this. I cannot believe that we have to raise it again and again to no avail! Disappointing!

This feature right here is the one thing that is stopping me from using SharePoint instead of email. You can copy/paste local images into an email but not into SP? Disappointing.

Microsoft wake up! We are 2024 and SharePoint Online is still lacking this feature. Atlassian Jira has this feature for a while now.

Per my test, we can copy and paste images from internet(not local folder) to Multiple line enhanced rich text field:

We can also copy and paste the picture that has stored in the SharePoint asserts library, however we cannot copy images from local directly to enhanced rich text field.

Where and how did you copy and paste images? if possible, please provide more details.

It's a shame and almost comical that such a basic feature isn't supported yet by SharePoint. You could easily paste any image into a Lotus Notes rich text field, both local and remote, well over 20 years ago. It was common practice for easily creating knowledge articles and technotes.

How SharePoint ever managed to overpower Lotus Notes/Domino to become the predominant corporate "knowledge management" tool, is a mystery I will never understand. It's like we regressed back in capability to what was possible years earlier.

Thanks Bill Gates for your exlemplary marketing and monopolization skills. Just a testament to how the best product is not necessarily the market choice.

@JoyZ I have this same issue.

I cannot copy and paste from Edge to an enhanced rich text column in SharePoint. It shows up after you paste the image but then disappears after you hit save. Seems like a significant bug since we now have gotten rid of IE. Any help or workaround is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello. Thank you for the clarification, and I can confirm that copying from browser images work, and local not. However, I don't understand why there's this limitation, and I don't understand what this is not made clear in the UI. I see the image being inserted, but when pressing save, and going back into the text, the image is gone. So my proposal is two-folded:

Make the pasting of an image available, regardless of source.

If (1) not possible, then advise users that image will be lost.

No, this is NOT copy and paste, but inserting an image from file/as link, a different thing!

To the end user, this is not relevant. If this is not possible from a technical perspective, the feature should not be shown at all. Then it should not be possible to do the copy/paste command at all, as it appears to the end user that this is possible.

Totally agree with Kenneth. I lost huge amounts of data because the system is accepting copy/paste. Only after saving, exiting and entering again you realized the image is not there anymore.

You can paste, but it will not save. The answer here is not correct.
